Mummification at The Atkinson

First thing is,

I had so much fun at the Atkinson today! I can't believe how many people came and enjoyed my activity. It honestly means so much to me.

So, I had 2 sessions - one at 1pm and one at 2pm. According to Atkinson staff, I had 31 people come to my first session and 38 to the second! A huge thank you to all who came!

The first group were a little timid, but were enthusiastic to learn. I'm glad that those without children, stayed without joining in, and enjoyed learning about mummification in such a different way.

The second group were crazily enthusiastic! A couple of visitors knew their stuff too, beating me to it with some of the answers.

I loved that some adults got involved with the activity too. You know, we need our fun, play time too!

According to volunteers in the foyer, a load of you left some lovely reviews and raved about the session, which means so much. Please note, I will be doing more throughout the summer holidays.

14th August: Family Friendly Gallery Tours

I have written a children's book based in our gallery, and I am going to preview it on this date.

Times are 13.00-13.30 and 14.00-14.30.

29th August: Tutankhamun Puppet Activity

This will be an activity for everyone to get involved with and also do an activity in the museum.

Times are 13.00-13.30 and 14.00-14.30.

An Update...

This post is a small update about what I have been doing in the last year. Hello everyone. It's been a while. How are you all doing? I thought that after a year of silence, I ought to explain. In March 2024, I left my job at the Atkinson, Southport, and started full time work in Preston. I now work in a lovely café, where I see squirrels every day, and walk along the Ribble. I am still applying for work in the heritage sector, because I refuse to give up my dream of working in a museum, but reality has kicked in, and I need to pay the bills.  So other than work, what else have been been doing? I am now a published author! In March, I published my first book of poetry, Winters Embrace. I started writing in December last year, and decided to just go for it. I am also working on my second book, which should be coming out soon! I was lucky enough to be asked to put my artwork in an exhibition called The Turning Point. Bolton Museum

This is a blog post about my trip to Bolton Museum (04/08/23) Bolton Museum and Art Gallery has probably one of the most impressive Egyptological collections I have ever seen. They have a decent amount of objects on display, and have one of the coolest rooms ever! (Don't worry, we'll get to that shortly.) Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, with an awesome Egyptology display I was delighted when I walked into the gallery, to be greeted by a small amount of ancient objects. And I mean this in the best way. Around this small space is modern history. A mixture of pop culture and Victorian collecting history. It was refreshing to read about Egyptomania in the 1970s, and so interesting to read about what the Egyptians experienced when the British came to Egypt from their prospective.  As I turned the corner, I saw a display that was just incredible.
